Ms. Doran has served as our Group Chief Financial Officer since 2017. She previously served as Senior Vice President, Strategy, Treasurer and Investor Relations at Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG, a specialty insurer and reinsurer. Prior to that, Ms. Doran worked as an investment banker in the Financial Institutions Group of Barclays and Lehman Brothers. Ms. Doran received a B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA in Finance and Economics from the University of Chicago. She and her partner are the parents of two young daughters.
Mr. D'Orazio joined James River Group Holdings in November 2020 as our Chief Executive Officer. From 2003 to 2020, Mr. D'Orazio held various executive positions at Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG., a specialty insurer and reinsurer, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff. Mr. D'Orazio previously held the positions of President, Underwriting and Global Risk; President, International Insurance; Chief Underwriting Officer; and Senior Vice President, Global Product Manager for General Casualty at the same company. Prior to Allied World, Mr. D'Orazio was a Regional Vice President, Global Risk Management at Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. Mr. D'Orazio began his career with The Chubb Group. Mr. D'Orazio received a B.A. in Political Science and American Studies from Fairfield University.
Ms. Gould has served on our Board of Directors since October 2021. Ms. Gould served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of XL Group Ltd (“XL”), a NYSE listed global insurance and reinsurance company, until XL was acquired by AXA, S.A. in 2018. Ms. Gould joined XL in 2000 and served in various leadership roles during her tenure, including leading the marketing and communications function from 2007-2015 while concurrently serving as General Counsel from September 2007. From 2005-2011, Ms. Gould chaired the Policy Committee of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR), which is a trade association of international property and casualty insurers and reinsurers. Ms. Gould currently serves on the board of Pacific Life Re Global Limited where she is a member of the Risk, Audit and Remuneration Committees. She is also the founder of Harrington Advisors LLC, a consulting company focused on strategic advice including M&A, corporate governance and insurance regulatory matters. Ms. Gould began her career in private practice with the law firms Dewey Ballantine LLP in New York (1991-1995) and Clifford Chance LLP in New York and London (1996-2000). Ms. Gould received a Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) from the State University of New York at Albany and a Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
Mr. Oakes has served on our Board of Directors since December 2007. Mr. Oakes has served as the President of Conifer Group, Inc., a consulting company, since February 2011. Prior to this, Mr. Oakes served as Executive Vice President of the Company from June 2010 until his retirement in January 2011. From December 2007 through June 2010, Mr. Oakes served as our Chief Financial Officer, and from March 2008 through June 2010, he served as our Chief Executive Officer. From 2004 through 2007, he served as Chief Financial Officer of James River Group and from 1998 until 2004, Mr. Oakes was a Managing Director in the Insurance Investment Banking Group at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Inc., an investment banking firm based in New York. Mr. Oakes received a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Ms. Roberts has served on our Board of Directors since July 2019. She retired in 2012 from her dual position as President and Chairman of General Star Management Company and President and Chairman of Genesis Management and Insurance Services Corporation, two wholly-owned subsidiaries of General Reinsurance Corporation (“GenRe”). Ms. Roberts began working at GenRe in 1977 and held positions with increasing levels of responsibility. Ms. Roberts served on the Navigators Group Inc. (“Navigators”) board from 2014 until 2019 when Navigators was sold to Hartford Financial Services Group. Ms. Roberts holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from George Mason University and received her CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation in 1985.
Mr. Sherman has served on our Board of Directors since May 2016. Mr. Sherman retired as a Managing Principal with Towers Watson in 2010. At Towers Watson, Mr. Sherman functioned as a consulting actuary and practice manager for Tower Watson’s property and casualty division for over 25 years. Prior to joining Towers Watson, Mr. Sherman was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company for ten years where he had overall responsibility for countrywide workers’ compensation pricing. Mr. Sherman graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, and he is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
Mr. Schmitzer has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of our Excess and Surplus Lines segment since 2010. He joined the segment in 2009 as Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer. Mr. Schmitzer previously spent nineteen years at the Scottsdale Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Nationwide Mutual, in a variety of underwriting and underwriting management roles, most recently as Vice President of Brokerage, Professional Liability and Programs. Mr. Schmitzer received a B.S. in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
Mr. Heinlein has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of our Casualty Reinsurance segment since 2018. He previously served as Vice President of Underwriting for the segment. He joined the Casualty Reinsurance segment in 2012 from Willis Re, where he produced and serviced US property and casualty treaty reinsurance accounts. Mr. Heinlein received a B.S. in Business Administration, with majors in Finance, Banking, and Risk Management and Insurance, from Appalachian State University.

Ms. Burnett has served as our Group Chief Human Resources Officer since 2014. She joined our Excess and Surplus Lines segment in 2009 as Head of Human Resources. She previously held the position of Vice President of Human Resources at LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc. In her over twenty-year career as a human resource professional, Ms. Burnett has held leadership positions in areas including talent management and change leadership, strategic human resource program development and planning, succession planning, leadership and management training, large-scale project planning and execution, merger integration, talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits, compensation, operations and process improvement. Mrs. Burnett received a B.S. degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, magna cum laude. She holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation.
Mr. Peach has served as our Group Chief Information Officer since 2019. He previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Zurich North America, responsible for end-to-end delivery of all technology services including strategy development, application service management, infrastructure, desktop services as well as outsourced services. During his 19 year tenure at Zurich, Mr. Peach gained expertise in underwriting automation including predictive analytics and pricing, policy administration, agency upload/download, rating and print technologies. Mr. Peach received a B.S. in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He has completed executive course work from Northwestern Kellogg School of Business and the Center for Creative Leadership.
Mr. Gelinne has served as our Group Chief Actuary since August 2021. Mr. Gelinne previously spent five years at Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG, a specialty insurer and reinsurer, where he most recently served as Group Chief Actuary. Prior to Allied World, Mr. Gelinne spent over 30 years at AIG in roles with increasing responsibility within the actuarial group. Mr. Gelinne’s last role at AIG was as SVP and Actuary, and Appointed Actuary for the AIG Domestic Pool Companies. Mr. Gelinne’s actuarial career spans almost 40 years, providing a deep and broad focus on non-life casualty risks. Mr. Gelinne received a B.A. in Government and Economics from Georgetown University. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Mr. Gunson has served as our Chief U.S. Claims Officer since 2021. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Complex Casualty Claims for CNA Insurance, with responsibility for establishing and implementing strategy for continued improvement of claim handling, customer service, and claim results for all Casualty Lines of Business, including CNA’s legacy asbestos and pollution exposures, abuse, and opioid claims. Prior to CNA, Mr. Gunson held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility within Chubb’s General Counsel and Claim Department and served as Chubb’s Worldwide Casualty Claim Manager. Prior to Chubb, Mr. Gunson worked for close to a decade as a partner in a New Jersey law firm, CMK, where his areas of practice included insurance defense, insurance coverage litigation, construction defect litigation and complex commercial disputes. He began his career as a law clerk to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Mr. Gunson is a former U.S. Army Military Police Officer who served with the U.S. Army’s 59th Ordinance Brigade in Siegelsbach, Germany. Mr. Gunson received a B.S. from the University of Delaware, magna cum laude, and a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law, also magna cum laude.
Mr. Hoffmann has served as our Group Chief Underwriting Officer since 2021. He previously served as Head of Risk and Ceded Reinsurance at Everest Insurance Company, a division of Everest Re Group. Prior to Everest, Mr. Hoffmann spent 15 years at Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG, a specialty insurer and reinsurer, where he most recently served as Global Insurance Chief Underwriting Officer. Prior to Allied World, Mr. Hoffmann spent 14 years with Chubb in a variety of roles in the U.S. and Bermuda. Mr. Hoffmann received a B.A. in History from Swarthmore College.
Jeanette L. Miller has served as our Chief Legal Officer since 2021. She joined the Company in 2018 as Assistant General Counsel. Ms. Miller previously served as Corporate Counsel and Deputy Compliance Officer at International Farming Corporation LLC, a privately owned institutional investment manager specializing in agriculture, from May 2017 to October 2018, and as Assistant General Counsel at CIFC LLC, an asset manager based in New York specializing in alternative credit, from December 2011 to June 2016. From 2006 to 2011, Ms. Miller was an attorney with Milbank LLP in New York in its Alternative Investments Practice. Ms. Miller received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Maine and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.
Mr. Migliorato retired in 2021 as a partner of Deloitte Consulting (“Deloitte”), where he most recently served as Lead Client Service Partner to insurance clients. Mr. Migliorato also served as the North American Insurance Consulting practice leader with Deloitte in the property & casualty, life & retirement, and employee benefits sectors. Mr. Migliorato joined Deloitte in 2001 and served in various leadership roles during his twenty-year tenure. Before joining Deloitte, Mr. Migliorato served as an equity partner at Emergence Consulting and Change Consulting, two start-up strategy consultancies, from 1998 to 2001 and as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Business Development at Marketing Technologies International, a data sciences firm, from 1997 to 1998. Prior to that, he led the Insurance Practice, served clients across multiple industries, and was Chief of Staff to the CEO of Gemini Consulting, a global management consulting firm, from 1985 to 1997. Mr. Migliorato serves as an advisory board member to Machine Cover, Inc., an insurance technology company, since June 2021. He served on the board of directors of State Automobile Mutual Insurance Company, the mutual holding company parent of State Auto Financial Corporation (“State Auto”) from March 2021 until State Auto was acquired by Liberty Mutual Holding Company Inc. in March 2022; and as an advisory board member to Safekeep, Inc., an insurance technology company, from June 2021 until its acquisition by CCCIS in February 2022. Mr. Migliorato received a Bachelor of Arts degree with dual majors in History and Geology from Oberlin College where he was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society.
Mr. Langwell has served on our Board of Directors since April 2023. Mr. Langwell retired in 2021 having most recently served as Vice Chairman of Insurance Operations for Liberty Mutual Insurance (“Liberty Mutual”). Mr. Langwell joined Liberty Mutual in 1997 and served in various leadership roles during his tenure, including as President – Global Risk Solutions from 2018 to 2021 and as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 2003 to 2018. He previously worked in finance and reporting roles for Liberty Mutual and other insurance companies and began his career at KPMG (Peat Marwick). Mr. Langwell also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at Providence College and the USS Constitution Museum. Mr. Langwell received a Bachelor of Science degree (magna cum laude) in Accounting from Providence College.

James P. McCoy joined James River in August 2023, and became Chief Actuary January 1, 2024. He previously served as Chief Actuary for National General, now a division of Allstate. Prior to that, he worked for 20 years in various roles at AIG, including Chief International Actuary. Mr. McCoy received a BA in Mathematics and an MAT degree from Cornell University, and spent the first 7 years of his career as a math teacher. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Ms. LaSala has served on our Board of Directors since July 2024. Ms. LaSala has over 45 years of management, client leadership and financial experience in the insurance industry in underwriting and insurance broking roles. She currently serves as a director of Sedgwick, a leading provider of claims management, loss adjusting and technology-enabled risk, benefit and business solutions. She served as a director of Beazley plc for eight years, including in a variety of board leadership roles such as Interim Chair, prior to stepping down in April 2024. Ms. LaSala retired as Chair of Willis Towers Watson North America in 2016. Prior to joining Willis in early 2014, she served for 10 years as the President and CEO of the WTC Captive Insurance Company, a U.S. government-funded, not-for-profit corporation providing liability insurance to the City of New York and over 100 private contractors. Prior to her service to the WTC Captive Insurance Company, Ms. LaSala had a long and successful career at Johnson & Higgins, where she was the firm’s only woman partner and, among other roles, served as President of Johnson & Higgins New York, providing broking advice and consultation to many of the firm’s largest clients.
